Proud Corazon from Coco

This is my favorite song from Coco, one of my all-time favorite animated films. While Remember Me won an Oscar for Best Original Song, I am more moved by Proud Corazon. It is sung at the triumphant end of the movie and when I heard it, my heart just soared. This song was written by Germaine Franco and Adrian Molina and is sung by Anthony Gonzalez, who voices the lead character Miguel. You can listen to this beautiful song here:

Here are the lyrics (along with the English translation of the Spanish words):

Say that I'm crazy or call me a fool
But last night it seemed that I dreamed about you
When I opened my mouth what came out was a song
And you knew every word and we all sang along

To a melody played on the strings of our souls
And a rhythm that rattled us down to the bone
Our love for each other will live on forever
In every beat of my proud corazón (heart)
Our love for each other will live on forever
In every beat of my proud corazón (heart)

Ay mi familia, oiga mi gente (Oh my family, hear my people)
Canten al coro (Sing to the choir), let it be known
Our love for each other will live on forever
In every beat of my proud corazón (heart)
Ay mi familia, oiga mi gente (Oh my family, hear my people)
Canten al coro (Sing to the choir), let it be known
Our love for each other will live on forever
In every beat of my proud corazón (heart)

To quote Behon, a commenter on this youtube video, "How can a song sound so happy yet be so tear jerking at the same time?" To this day, I listen to this song a lot and I think it would be a very good song to play at a funeral: it is a celebration of life and love, it is hopeful, it is appropriately upbeat, and yet it tugs powerfully at the heart strings.
