This is not a good start to the tennis year. Rafa Nadal lost in three sets to Michael Berrer in the first round of the Qatar Open. This is sort of understandable given that Rafa is coming back from an appendectomy and he barely played in the second half of 2014 due to a wrist injury. However, this loss is still quite unfortunate because his conqueror, Michael Berrer, is currently ranked 127. Also, Rafa also took the first set very easily (6-1) so you would have expected him to win the match. Alas, it didn't happen.
Rafa has now suffered back-to-back competitive losses. His last official match in 2014 was a loss to Borna Ćorić at the Swiss Indoors in October. (I'm not counting the Mubadala Tennis Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, although Rafa also had a bad loss there against Andy Murray.) With the Australian Open starting in a couple of weeks, I'm hoping that Rafa can find his form really soon so he can do well in the year's first Grand Slam tournament.
